Notes: I always thought the intro where Thile sings and percussively chops out the beat on the mandolin was cool but felt the guitarist should have been doing something there as well. Genre: Bluegrass Key: A Tuning: EADGBE (Standard) Difficulty: Intermediate The guitar break is hot licks that contain the melody, not too hard (none of the songs here are very hard), and definitely not a swing version! Has a Rhythm Guitar & Bass rhythm track. The last is a pop song from the late teens, and was often done by swing groups (Django Reinhardt did it) and dance bands, and the Skillet Lickers did a nice, hot, advanced OT version of the tune. Dixie, of course is well known by all and makes a great bluegrass tune. The second is the SL's take on the old fiddle tune " Waggoner". Hell Broke Loose In Georgia & Four Cent Cotton are both simple, pentatonic songs which I absolutely love, but other's might find boring (go figure :P). The 5 songs are (in the same order as on the tab, which is no order in particular): Hell's Broke Loose In Georgia, Four Cent Cotton, Georgia Waggoner, Dixie, & The Darktown Strutters' Ball. Notes: Here is a medley of 5 songs done by the original Skillet Lickers, that wild, wacky & superb old time string band from Georgia that recorded in the 20's & 30's. Genre: Bluegrass Key: C Tuning: EADGBE (Standard) Difficulty: Intermediate Skillet Lickers' Medley in "C" for Lead Guitar You can also use 7th chords, experiment a little. The Rhythm uses power chords(C5, F5, Ab5 and Bb5), but you can use Cm, Fm, Ab and Bb to give the heart of the score a complete minor sound. You can also start by using the Pentatonic and then use minor scales or Dorian based scales from the MODES to create new ideas. These ideas I used playing through out the entire score, mostly last bar of each measure. One way to do this is to play notes right out of the underlying chord (play the occasional chord arpeggio), take notes from the chord to create double stops, usually using 3rds and 5ths. Notes: This lesson demonstrates interesting ways of creating a solo with a repetitive chord progression, and avoid making it boring by using the same chords over and over again.

I offer online, personalized flatpicking lessons via Skype! Jamey Pittman - Flatpicking Instructor - Snellville, GA One of the nice things about this arrangement is it sounds quite good whether you play it at a slow or fast tempo. I included the pickstrokes above the tab Although Clarence was fond of the DDU style of crosspicking, I prefer the straight, alternate picking approach. Of course, you can capo it anywhere you like (or not at all). The song is played out of the C shape and I like the way it sounds on my instrument capoed at the 3rd fret, hence the key being Eb. This is an exact transcription of the first iteration of the tune from my YouTube video which can be found here: Notes: This is my interpretation of Clarence White's crosspicked version of "Bury Me Beneath The Willow".
